Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate and water. It is used in the manufacturing of wallboard, cement, plaster of Paris, soil conditioning and hardening retarder in Portland cement.
On the back of rising demand from industries such as construction, ceramic and cement, the Indian gypsum market is poised to grow significantly in the coming years. In India, the overall consumption of gypsum was around 10 million TPA in 2015.
SBPL will be producing marine gypsum which is obtained as a by-product during the production of common salt by solar evaporation. SBPL envisages to produce 0.2 million TPA of marine gypsum.
